For several years now, the EU has made ambitious noises on the environmental front (with its ‘Green Deal’ in 2019 and ‘Climate Package’ in 2021), particularly the goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, with an intermediate objective of a 55% reduction of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. However, Russia’s war in Ukraine and its impact in the field of energy have changed the terms of debate. This ‘Signposts’ article offers an update on the EU’s energy strategy (REPowerEU), as it is emerging in this new context.
